We run a sport horse competition yard in Auckland and have horses boxed 12 - 18 hours per day all year round.  I have been using Airlyte bedding in the stables for the past two months.

Compared to the shavings we used previously, the cardboard bedding is completely dust free, cushioning, easier to muck out and less likely to move around.  These features provide significant benefits with respect to animal health and stable labour work enjoyment.

For a 4m x 4m stable we use 10 bags to fill initially, then top up at a rate of one bag per week.  This method has been sufficient for the very large horses we stable, the biggest being 18.1 hh.

While we find the bedding more expensive than shavings, there are less labour costs in the daily maintenance of the stables and the health benefits of a dust free bedding are not only noticed with the horses, but also by people mucking out the stables.
