After surgery on her arthritis, Abby Letteri's pony is well on the way to recovery

Our young pony developed arthritis in a hind pastern, which caused her a lot of pain and made her unsound. The remedy for this condition is to fuse the pastern surgically. While the success rate of this procedure is quite high, the recovery period is long and difficult. Sassy has to be boxed for a minimum of 3 months. She was in a cast for the first six weeks, and is now splinted and bandaged. It is imperative that she stand on a clean, dry, cushioned bed. We have used Airlyte since the day Sassy came home from hospital and are very pleased with it. Sassy has had no complications (no swollen legs, no hoof problems). The bedding absorbs moisture, and the clumps of soiled bedding are easy to detect and remove.

We have been re-bagging the soiled Airlyte, which (mixed with manure) is being used by local gardeners as mulch. The recycling goes on!

The lovely women from Wellington Feed and Saddlery tell me that you are great to do business with, so that's another feather in your cap!

All the best,

To The Team at Airlite,

thank you very much for your incredibly kind donation of bedding for Oliver my young 4 year old warmblood dressage horse, who was injured badly at the Horse Of The Year, in an incident caused by some drunk young riders. This was the first time I had been introduced to your product and I love it! Not only is it cleaner but it is a much more stable bedding under their feet. Oliver loves it and it makes cleaning stables much faster as well.

I am pleased to say that Oliver was ridden today for the first time since his accident and thanks to all the kind help and amazing resources we had access to at the show he has made an excellent recovery. He does, however, have a few permanent swellings, lumps and bumps as a result.

We so appreciate your kind generousity, and fantastic product!

. . . These (Airlyte bedding) features provide significant benefits with respect to animal health and stable labour work enjoyment.

We run a sport horse competition yard in Auckland and have horses boxed 12 - 18 hours per day all year round. I have been using Airlyte bedding in the stables for the past two months.

Compared to the shavings we used previously, the cardboard bedding is completely dust free, cushioning, easier to muck out and less likely to move around. These features provide significant benefits with respect to animal health and stable labour work enjoyment.

For a 4m x 4m stable we use 10 bags to fill initially, then top up at a rate of one bag per week. This method has been sufficient for the very large horses we stable, the biggest being 18.1 hh.

While we find the bedding more expensive than shavings, there are less labour costs in the daily maintenance of the stables and the health benefits of a dust free bedding are not only noticed with the horses, but also by people mucking out the stables.

". . . The cost of setting up a loose box with Airlyte is far less than the vet bills for the respiratory problems.”

Sheila has set up one of her loose boxes with Airlyte and believes the money is well spent.

"My mare started coughing before Christmas and it got progressively worse, until I had to call the vet in during early January when I thought she had developed pneumonia. The cough persisted even after a course of antibiotics so I started looking for possible triggers,” says Sheila.

“After eliminating everything else, it soon became obvious that it was dust related as my pony developed the same cough when I began stabling him. My theory was proven correct as both their coughs cleared up completely within 48 hours of taking them off the sawdust. And just to be sure, I briefly tried them both again on the sawdust and guess what? Yep, coughs returned!"

“I am so pleased someone has taken the initiative and is making the product in New Zealand. The cost of setting up a loose box with Airlyte is far less than the vet bills for the respiratory problems.”

I ordered Airlyte horse stable bedding after my horse sustained a serious leg injury running through a fence and was required to be stabled for an indefinite period of time while recovering. I used Airlyte bedding over a dirt floor and my horse was kept stabled 24/7 for almost a month, then stabled only at night.

I found the Airlyte bedding to be an excellent and economical product. It kept the smell down, the stable dry and was easy to muck out, and my horse's wound stayed clean. Donald was fantastic to deal with and sent me a pallet load immediately.

"Cardboard bedding has the benefit of being a dust free
alternative to shavings, sawdust, or straw. It is a clean bedding that can
be safely used with horses undergoing wound management or post operative care to
help prevent infection and contamination. The advantages also extend to
preventing respiratory inflammation in healthly equine athletes. There
have been studies to show that small particulate matter (like that of bedding,
road dust, vehicle dust, and feed) contribute to mucoid accumulation in the
respiratory tract causing inflammation and allergies which can lead to
reduced athletic performance (especially in high performance race and sport
horses). Cardboard bedding is one way to reduce the particulate matter to
which horses are exposed."

Lillian Bonner
